6 SPECIAL FEATURES THAT DEFINE GUNNR’S ODIN SCOPES

LPVOs come and go, but only the best ones stay. Gogunnr released a new line of LPVOs called the ODIN  this year, and they have quickly taken off. The reason these scopes have been successful where others have failed is quite simple: they are good scopes, and any shooter who picks one up can tell that the company has put a lot of effort into providing them.

This article will discuss the six baseline features that have made the ODIN brand successful and what Gogunnr has done right. Take note that these are features that are common across all three ODIN scopes released in tandem. For individual features, you might have to check each scope on a one-by-one basis.

Without further ado, let's explore!

1. All Odin Scopes Have  FFP Reticles

Most reticles are “quite okay”. Quite okay in the sense that they achieve the primary purpose of a rifle scope, which is to allow the shooter to aim and take an accurate shot over a longer range than is possible with just the rifle. The beauty of an FFP reticle, however, is that it lets you adjust magnification levels and take a clearer and closer shot without sacrificing accuracy.

This is why the Odin Scopes are all FFP reticles. Gogunnr understands that most shooters are involved in shooting scenarios where accuracy matters over a long range, and so all Odin reticles are designed to enable you to shoot over medium to long ranges with accuracy and clarity. If you are into big game, competitive shooting, and/or military applications, one of the most important investments you can make is an ODIN scope.

How an FFP Scope Helps You Perform Better

FFP (First Focal Plane) means the reticle is located at the front of the rifle and the magnification lenses. This location is ideal because it determines how the reticle responds to changes in magnification. An FFP reticle reticle grows and shrinks in response to changes in the level of magnification, ensuring that the image remains the same size relative to the scope. Why does this matter? Consider the following advantages.

Your Subtensions Remain Consistent

As you change the level of magnification, your holdovers remain accurate, along with the range estimations and wind corrections you made at the previous magnification level. In other words, you get a bigger and clearer view of your target without having to change the settings and adjustments (which can undermine accuracy).

You Get Precision Irrespective of Magnification Level

You can keep the same settings, using the reticle's markings (like mil-dots or MOA) for bullet drop compensation (BDC) or windage adjustments even when you switch from higher to lower magnification or vice-versa.  There is no need to adjust for different subtensions, unlike in SFP (Second Focal Plane) reticles. In other words, you don’t need to recalculate holdovers or wind adjustments after changing zoom settings.

Rapid Target Acquisition

All Odin scopes feature a tree reticle, which changes in size to help you aim better. At lower magnifications, the reticle is small, so it does not obstruct your view of the target. As you zoom in, the reticle adjusts in size, conveniently growing to provide a detailed and accurate aiming point. The opposite happens when you zoom out.

Why use a Tree Reticle?

Another specific advantage of a tree reticle is that it simply displays more relevant information. With its grid pattern, you have more points of reference. If you miss a shot, for example, you can quickly tell how far off you were, having to dial in any adjustments on the scope. In scenarios where you need to deliver a quick follow-up shot, an Odin scope is the ideal gear for success.

2. Odin Scopes Have A Zero-Stop Function

All Odin scopes have a zero-stop function, and this is crucial when you have to frequently adjust your scope's elevation for bullet drop compensation at various distances. A zero-stop function enables you to quickly return to zero after making adjustments and make new adjustments for a different scenario if need be.

While the FFP helps you maintain accuracy after changing the magnification level, a zero stop function helps you regain your baseline level of accuracy (that is essentially what your zero is) after making adjustments. From there, you can start afresh and establish new settings for a different scenario.

Working together, the combination of these two foundational features and functions already makes Odin scopes the quintessence of versatility and accuracy. But there are more features.

3. The Lenses Are Made of German Schott Glass

When you use an Odin scope, you basically don’t have to worry about lens-related setbacks like blurring or discolored images. All the lenses are made of German Schott glass, which is superior to most of the glasses used in other scopes. Here’s how Schott glass makes a difference:

It is an Extra Low-Dispersion Glass

Low-dispersion glass is highly performant because it minimizes chromatic aberration. Without going into the complicated details of light waves and optics, chromatic aberration is responsible for the purple or green edges you sometimes see around the objects when you look through a scope or even a binocular or camera lens.

With Schott ED glass, the light coming in is more accurately focused, and you see a sharper and cleaner image. This is why the images on all Odin scopes are natural, with true-to-life colors and more realistic.

Schott ED Glass is Great in Low Light

Schott ED glass helps transmit light more efficiently, leading to brighter images, even in low-light conditions. This is crucial because a lot of shooting is done in such conditions. Hunters prefer to go out at dawn or dusk, and tactical scenarios mostly happen in low-light environments.

With its ED Schott glass, you can take the Odin scope out at any time and get guaranteed optical performance.

In summary, German Schott glass gives Odin scopes a level of clarity and precision that is rare to find in any other scope. When you look through any Odin rifle scope, you see an image with improved contrast and color accuracy, and you can spot fine details on the target even from a long range.

4. ODIN Scopes Provide Schock Protection

Odin scopes are capable of handling the substantial recoil generated by firing large cartridges. All three models in the Odin line have been put through rigorous tests and have met high standards for shock resistance. Each scope has been tested to withstand 1,000 impacts at 1,000G and up to 2,000 live-fire rounds, ensuring that it is tough enough to handle heavy recoils and accidental drops.

5. They Come With  IP67 WATERPROOFING

Odin scopes are specially coated with IP67 Waterproofing which gives them unrivalled resistance to water infiltration. Obviously, it would be a crucial mistake to let the internal components of your scope come in contact with water. However, your hunting trip does not have to come to an end if there is a sudden downpour.

IP67 Waterproofing means your Odin scope will not only be protected from the rainwater, but that you can continue using it with accuracy and clarity. The internal components of your Odin scope will remain tightly sealed and properly closed off, with minimal risk of water penetration.

6.  The Scope Bodies Are Built from  7075 Aluminum Alloy

The 7075 aluminum elements used in the construction of Odin scopes are perhaps the most obvious proof that they are built to withstand the harshest conditions. 7075 aluminum is the same material used for the outer bodies of aircraft, missile parts, and a variety of aerospace and defense applications, such as all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Propellers.

With 7075 aluminum bodies, Odin scopes rank amongst those objects in terms of durability and ruggedness. All Odin scopes have been put through rigorous salt spray tests to offer outstanding corrosion-resistant performance in harsh conditions.

With any of Odin’s LPVOs, you can shoot effectively and consistently even in temperatures from -59°F to 149°F, whether you're facing frigid cold or blazing heat.

GET A GUNNR SCOPE AND TRY IT YOURSELF

After years of development, the Odin line of Gounnr scopes is the result of combining all the above features and functions. Three scopes built on these unshakable foundations give the shooter the optimal shooting experience. Customers and experts who have tested Odin scopes and other Gogunnr products have expressed genuine satisfaction with the quality of the products, as they can recognize the efforts put into developing them.

There is no reason why your next scope should not be an Odin scope. Check out all the available products and details, and make a choice that suits you best. For more information, check out the formal introduction to the Odin scopes and other useful maintenance tips and news from Gogunnr.
