BEST 1-10x LPVO UNDER $700? REVIEWING ODIN 10x FROM GOGUNNR

The balance between affordability and functionality is a critical factor when deciding how good a scope is. The ideal would be to have a scope that offers the most advanced features but at a reasonable and affordable price.  The Odin 1-10x 28 is the third and most sophisticated scope in Gogunnr's line of ODIN LPVOs released earlier this year. Given the features that it offers, this scope is totally a steal, especially considering its price of $620.

This blog will review, examine, and score the ten key features of this scope and rate it on an overall score of 100.

How We Will Score the Odin 10x

  • We will evaluate and score the Odin 10x by rating 10 key features on a scale from 1 to 10.
  • The score for each feature will be obtained based on its effectiveness and suitability for the overall needs of most shooters.
  • Ultimately, we will add all the individual scores and rate them over 100 to get a final score. If it gets 90+, we can all agree that it has to be at least one of the best scopes, considering it costs $620.

10 KEY FEATURES

Optical Quality

Optical quality is arguably the most critical quality of a good LPVO. The lenses will be graded based on the quality of the glass used, whether it provides clearer images, and whether it makes it easier to see details at various distances.

Coatings (such as fully multi-coated lenses) that improve light transmission reduce glare, and help in low-light conditions will earn extra points.

Magnification

All LPVOs have variable magnification, but only the best models have purpose-driven magnification.

This means the Odin 10x must be able to give a mix of low-power magnification (1-4x) and an impressive level of high-power magnification (9x and above).

Reticle Design

The reticle design must fit the demands of general-purpose shooting. Any of these reticles would earn good points.

BDC (Bullet Drop Compensation) Reticle:

Great for medium to long-range use, but are often calibrated for specific ammunition.

Illuminated Reticle: Helps in low-light situations or for fast target acquisition in different lighting conditions.

Horus or Christmas Tree Reticle: The Horus reticle and the Christmas Tree reticle are popular in long-range shooting optics due to their precision and range-finding capabilities.

Durability

The scope must be made from a solid, highly durable material that handles recoil and drops.

Waterproof & Fogproof are also essential for all-weather use.

Eye Relief

Longer eye relief (typically 3.5-4 inches) is safer, especially for high-recoil rifles, to avoid scope bites.

Field of View (FOV)

A wider FOV gets more points because the scope is beneficial for tracking moving targets and situational awareness, especially in hunting or tactical situations.

Adjustment Turrets (Windage and Elevation)

Exposed turrets are easier to adjust quickly in the field.

A more convenient click value gets extra points for accuracy at varying distances. Typically, 1/4 MOA or 1/10 mil per click.

Zero-reset and Zero Stop features are also added points

Weight and Size

The more compact the scope, the better for the shooter. Heavier scopes can affect rifle balance and handling, especially for hunting.

Warranty and Customer Support

A good scope should be backed by a robust warranty, such as a lifetime warranty that covers repair or replacement in case of damage or defects.

Summary

Of course, the specific features that matter most will depend on the shooter's discipline (hunting, tactical, long-range, etc.). However, most shooters would agree that these features matter to any optic.

Justification

i. Optical Quality

The Odin gets a ten on optical quality because of its superior German Schott ED lenses.

  • It is an extra low dispensation glass that minimizes chromatic aberration.
  • It is also highly performant in low-light scenarios.

In summary, the Schott ED glass gives this scope clarity and precision that is simply top-tier and rare to find, earning a 10.

ii. Magnification

  • The Odin offers a magnification range of 1-10x, which is convenient for short-, mid-, and long-range shooting. For an LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic), 1-10x magnification is top-tier, so the Odin gets a 10.
  • At 1x, it functions indistinguishably from a red dot, and at 10x, it provides accuracy over a reasonably long range.

iii. Reticle Design

The ODIN 1Ox comes with a reticle designed in the Tree shape. Some shooters call these ‘Tree reticles,’ but different shooters have different names.

The great thing about this reticle is that it does not interfere with the image. The purpose of “Tree Design” is to ensure that the information is displayed as an acute triangle, giving you a clean and uninterrupted view of the target, and the Odin reticle achieves this with aplomb.

With its extended 1 MOA hash marks, this reticle facilitates accuracy for windage and elevation adjustments.

It enables you to hit your mark with precision at greater distances consistently.

The score of 8 is not a reflection of any deficiency. However, since reticle preferences are often a matter of personal judgment, 8 is an appropriate score.

iv. Eye Relief

The Odin 10x's 3.74-inch eye relief earns it 8. 3.74 inches falls within the range of what is considered a safe amount of eye relief, but some would argue that since some scopes provide more, the Odin cannot be given the full mark. 8, however, should be indisputable.

v. Durability

The body or exterior “carapace” of the Odin is made of solid, high-grade 7075 aluminum, which earns it an uncontestable 10. These are industry-standard materials and are even used in aircraft and war equipment.

The Odin can withstand temperatures between -590C to 1490C.

The scope is extra protected with an IP67 waterproof rating.

vi.  Adjustment Turrets

This scope comes with Locking Turrets that keep your windage and elevation settings securely in place. With these turrets in place, there is no chance of unintentional shifts while aiming or shooting. The turrets are solid and dependable, and you can hear when they lock into place. An undebatable 10.

Viii. Field of View

At 100 yds, you get a complete 20.4-122.5 yds all-round view through the scope. This is the stander field of view you’d get from any other scope within this category.

122.5 yards at lower magnification: This wider FOV is at the scope’s lowest magnification, and it allows for better situational awareness and easier target acquisition.

20.4 yards at 10x magnification: At maximum magnification, the FOV naturally narrows, which is good for precise, long-distance shots.

ix. Weight and Size

At a total weight of 685g, this scope measures 11.7 in (296 mm) in length, an appropriate size and length, given the range of magnification,
